For a great beer in Florence, head upstairs to La Birreria at the Mercato Centrale Firenze. They have a great selection of local brews on tap, and the service was fast and friendly.
It was fun to watch the action behind the bar. After you pay for your beer at the bar, the bartender would pull a glass for your beer style, gave the glass a quick dunk in the sink, followed by a rinse in another sink, and then filled it to the top with your nice cold beer. Cheers! -

On the 2nd (European 1st) floor of Mercato Centrale is a huge food hall with lots of selections for food and drink. At a food hall people will purchase items from several different vendors to create their own meal.
La Birreria is the beer vendor that specializes in "birra alla spina" AKA beer on tap. Italy has a craft beer scene that is on the rise BUT unfortunately this is not the case here as this vendor sells *only* Birra Moretti. Birra Moretti is certainly NOT a craft beer as it's equivalent to Budweiser in terms of major beer penetration and is owned by Heineken.
I come from San Diego, which has a strong craft beer scene. I can say with certainty that these beers are light and weak. I've had both the summer flavor and their version of a stronger ale. They are on the malty side (which I like) but that is their sole positive quality. Beer is sold in two sizes but I think costs around €5 for the larger glass.
At the time of my visit they had two screens that a big group of people used to watch World Cup 2018 games. Staff did take orders from tables but this took a long time so I ended up just ordering from the bar.
